Please join John Friend for three evening online Bowspring classes in celebration of the birth of the Sun on December 25th. This is the holy day in which the sunlight starts to grow again, after 3 days of stillness following the Winter Solstice (the Sun “standing still”) — the darkest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Mythically, December 21st represents the death of the Solar Logos – Spirit in the form of life-giving Light. On the short day and longest night of the year, the Dark seems to be victorious.
But hope is never lost, especially during the three days after the Solstice when the light and dark are unchanging. Then on December 25th, the Sun-god – symbol of the awakened soul is reborn and re-emerges from the darkness.Through the millennia, the birthday of the “Sun-god” – Horus, Mithras, Prometheus, Hermes, Adonis, Dionysus, and of course, Jesus – was always December 25th. The ancient Romans designated December 25th – the feast of “Sol Invictus”, their “unconquerable” Sun-god, celebrating the first perceptible return of the Light.
In the Bowspring, the birth of the Sun represents the radiant awakening of inner light within the body — the resurrection of Spirit through dynamic posture, breath, and awareness. As the Sun rises again in the heavens, so too does the solar current rise from the core of the pelvis — the creative hearth — ascending through the Central Channel, illuminating the heart, throat, and crown.
The practice becomes a living ritual of renewal: the awakening of the Solar Logos within the human form. Kindling the sacred flame at the base of the spine in the core of the pelvis, the student draws it upward through the Central Channel like a golden river of creative power.
In the core of the brain, the light blossoms into luminous awareness — the halo of the awakened mind — signifying the victory of Spirit over matter, of illumined presence over darkness.
